about

Darker Sounds’ thirteenth release, the EP Evil Mind (DS013), features four producers and four tracks perfectly suited for this edition, a celebration of dark and minimal techno that invokes demons not only from the beyond, but from within ourselves as well.

Cubex’s “Evil Mind”, the track for which the EP is titled, is an unapologetic show of force, confident to lead a charge onto a battlefield with a deceptively simple yet hypnotic bassline. Joseph Zohlo, with his contribution “Manifestacion Obscura”, is a track with haunting vocals that approach from the periphery, and a grinding tempo that flies low and steady on a ferocious crusade. Bruno Ledesma gives us “Preecdisis”, a shadowy quest defined by looming echoes from distant corners. And to round out this EP, we are awarded “Endless” by Diatek, where a mysterious presence lurks. We encounter the shifting of elements making their presence known alongside Diatek’s heavy, pounding percussion.

The entire EP takes you on a powerful journey, a story that can only be told by Darker Sounds and its cast of powerful ghouls, skilled in telling the most gruesome and disturbing tales. This journey follows Darker Sounds’ signature path and retains the same dark nuances found in all their releases. All four tracks deliver heavy, brutal bass drums that pound against flesh and bone, and take you on a ride you have come to expect from every DS release. As a collection and on their own, the atmosphere of these tracks is sparse and grounding, and the production is polished, explosive, and intense. This EP balances a minimal structure while retaining Infectious basslines that summon demons from the deepest parts of the imagination. Evil Mind delivers dark techno in pure and violent form, and each track will make its presence felt wherever it is played, from headphones to the dance floor.
